Trail 2

Trail 2 is the longest (2.1 miles) of the three trails starting from the Abe Martin Lodge.  The trail begins at the rear of the lodge, near the Lafe Bud, Tawney Apple and Doc Mopps cabins.  The Civilian Conservation Corps originally built this trail and several stone bridges, stairways, and retaining walls.

After passing behind the Family Cabins, the trail drops down to follow along a creek.  This area may be wet or muddy after rainy periods.  The trail then crosses the lodge road, continues past the North Lookout Tower at 1.19 miles and continues past the Lower Shelterhouse before climbing a series of steps leading back to the lodge.  A deck about halfway up provides a resting stop.  As the trail nears its end at the opposite side of the lodge from where it begins, it is joined for a short distance with the beginning of Trail 1.
